Beneath the polished corporate presence and the high-profile deals, many lawyers and executives struggle in silence.

Their own inner critic is a relentless voice that questions their competence, judges their worth, and magnifies any missteps. This internal dialogue—often mistaken for a driver of excellence—can become a breeding ground for chronic stress, burnout, and self-doubt.

Reframing how we understand and interact with our inner critic offers a powerful path forward, not just by quieting that voice, but by transforming our relationship with it. Through this process, we can develop new neural pathways that foster authentic confidence and resilience.

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-based approach grounded in neuroscience. It helps you interrupt negative cycles before they cost you your performance, your relationships, or your health. Through this approach, we’re able to identify where stress, anxiety, and past experiences live in your body—and release them at the root. It’s especially effective for people who feel stuck even though they "know" what’s wrong—people who say, "I understand it… I just can’t change it."

We begin by slowing down. Together, we build awareness of your body’s signals—without judgment. You’ll learn to notice the physical sensations that show up with stress, conflict, or overthinking, and understand how your nervous system responds to perceived threats—even when there isn’t one. From there, I guide you in learning tools to down-regulate anxiety, shift your state in real time, and build new, more adaptive patterns from the inside out.

Through techniques like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and nervous system regulation tools, this work supports:

  • Better emotional regulation

  • Reduced reactivity and overthinking

  • Greater confidence and clarity

  • Physical and mental stress relief

  • Stronger boundaries and communication

When you learn to regulate your nervous system, you unlock access to clarity, confidence, and calm under pressure.

Somatic therapy is the ultimate self-care strategy.

Somatic Methods I Use

EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION & REPROCESSING (EMDR)

EMDR is a research-supported technique that helps the brain reprocess distressing or high-intensity experiences, so they no longer carry the same emotional charge or trigger physiological stress.

For high performers, EMDR is particularly useful for:

  • Preparing for significant events (hearings, client pitches, board presentations)

  • Processing professional setbacks or difficult interactions

  • Interrupting cycles of panic, perfectionism, and performance anxiety

INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (IFS)

IFS helps you explore and shift your relationship with the internal “parts” that drive your stress—like the inner critic, the perfectionist, or the overfunctioner. These parts were developed to help you succeed, but they can become rigid or even extreme under the chronic pressure that comes with a demanding career.

Instead of fighting them, we get curious. You’ll learn how to engage with these parts from a calm, steady place and help them adapt into more supportive, useful roles.

VAGAL TONING & REGULATION TECHNIQUES

The vagus nerve plays a central role in how your body responds to stress. Strengthening your vagal tone improves your ability to return to a calm, clear state—even in the midst of high-pressure moments.

I’ll teach you simple, effective techniques like:

  • Breathwork (e.g., physiological sighs, paced breathing)

  • Gentle movement and somatic tracking

  • Discreet, on-the-go tools for use in meetings, courtrooms, or presentations

Frequently asked questions —

  • You don’t need to come in with a perfect sense of what’s “wrong.” In fact, many of my clients say they’re used to thinking their way through problems, but feel disconnected from how they feel. This work helps you reconnect—not through forced vulnerability, but through attunement, curiosity, and tools that meet you where you are.

  • Somatic therapy is especially effective for stress-related issues, burnout, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, overthinking, high-pressure performance moments, unresolved professional experiences, and reactivity in relationships (both personal and professional). It’s ideal when insight hasn’t led to change.

  • That’s exactly who it’s for. Many of my clients lead with their intellect and are used to thinking their way through problems. Somatic therapy gives you access to a different kind of intelligence—your body’s—which can help you shift patterns that insight on its own hasn’t been able to reach.

  • It’s a blend of conversation, guided awareness, and experiential techniques. I’ll help you track physical sensations, notice what’s happening in your nervous system, and learn how to shift your state in real time. We might also use specific interventions like breathwork or EMDR, depending on your goals.

  • Not necessarily. Some clients do want to explore their past, but others prefer to focus on what’s happening in the present. Methods like EMDR allow us to work with past experiences if they’re still impacting you today—but you don’t need to share every detail. In fact, many of these techniques are effective even with minimal verbal processing.

  • Currently, I do not accept insurance. I can, however, provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for any out-of-network reimbursement.

We can heal our anxiety, not just learn to cope with it.
